Alaska Rural Water Association has a staff of full-time professionals who provide various services to small water and wastewater systems and operators throughout Alaska.
ARWA currently provides three programs:

Wastewater Technical Assistance and Training

ARWA’s wastewater technical assistance and training specialist travels throughout Alaska to provide onsite assistance and regional training to wastewater operators at small utilities.

Technical assistance may include:

  • Operations and maintenance guidance

  • Regulatory compliance

  • Emergency response preparedness

This program is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.

Drinking Water
Circuit Riders

ARWA’s two circuit riders travel throughout Alaska to provide onsite, “over-the-shoulder” technical assistance to drinking water operators at small utilities.

Technical assistance may include:

  • Operations and maintenance guidance

  • Regulatory compliance

  • Finance and management assistance

  • Emergency response preparedness

  • Sanitary survey assistance

The two circuit rider positions are funded through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.

Source Water Protection

ARWA brings together stakeholders connected to surface water and groundwater sources throughout Alaska. They work together to develop source water protection plans that help ensure the safety of water sources used primarily for drinking water.

The program also provides outreach to communities and youth about the importance of protecting their source water.

This program is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
