This workshop is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the operation and maintenance of chlorine and turbidity process analyzers. Proper calibration and verification techniques for each instrument will be described in presentations and practiced in a “hands-on” laboratory environment. The course objectives will be met by presenting theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical techniques, and through demonstration and “hands-on” practice using on-line and laboratory instrumentation. This session will focus primarily on the 1720E turbidimeter and the CL17 chlorine analyzer. |

Throughout the United States there are about 880,000 miles of distribution pipelines, which provide water for drinking and other applications. An additional 13,200 miles of new installations are added each year and approximately 4,400 miles are replaced annually. Some of these systems have been in service for over 200 years. Very little is known about the physical, biological, and chemical activities that occur within these pipes. This course is an introduction to some of the issues relating to distribution systems. Some of the topics will include commonly monitored water quality parameters, proper sampling and analytical techniques, and the importance of data acquisition and interpretation for monitoring the health of these vital lifelines |

In short, operators of class A water systems that serve a population of less than 3,300 can seek reimbursement for costs associated with training to include course fees, commercial travel to/from the course, and hotel costs. Here's how it works:
* Operators will complete a pre-approval form. Employment at an eligible system is required. The list of eligible systems is posted on the web.
* Upon approval, the Operator Certification program credits the operator's "training account" with $500.
* The operator attends an approved course, keeping all receipts. The list of approved courses is posted on the web. The list also includes many correspondence courses. The list of approved courses will be updated when the new calendar comes out or as courses are approved.
* Operators submit reimbursement forms and receipts to the Operator Certification Program. The state cuts a refund check up to the balance of that operator's training account.
